Q: "How can I download and install SerSart MTS onto my Windows mobile phone and why do I need to install J2ME as well?"

A: SerSart MTS application was designed using Java language and furthermore compressed, for the collection of files to be as small as possible, into a JAR file (short for Java ARchive file, and identified by its file extension .jar). This JAR file contains the actual application(s) and necessary resources to run SerSart MTS. It is an archive and may contain multiple files.

As of today, J2ME is not included with Windows Mobile phones operating systems. Therefore in order to run Java supported applications on Windows Mobile phones users need to simply supply their phones with J2ME by manually installing its midlet onto their Windows Mobile phones.

So the first step to installing SerSart MTS onto a Windows mobile phone would be to download a Java VM (Free) or J2ME onto an actual Windows mobile phone.

Q: "What JVMs are available for PocketPC devices?"

A: This is probably the most popular question and biggest barrier for Java on PocketPC. Simply use IBM's J9 JVM.

Q: "How to deploy J9 on my Windows 5.0?"

A: : Use the following steps to deploy this Java Runtime for Windows Mobile 5.0 CLDC 1.1/MIDP 2.0 on your target device.

1. Download the product Installer to the Host PC from the IBM
2. Use the Extraction Wizard to extract the files. Extract the files to the default location indicated.
3. Select the Explore icon in ActiveSync to open a File Explorer window for your mobile device.
4. Use File Explorer to go to the root folder on your mobile device and create a new folder named J9.
5. Open the J9 folder and create a MIDP20 folder.

6. Copy the previously unzipped bin, lib and examples directories to the MIDP20 folder. Note: These directories can be copied to any location you choose on the target file system; however, the \bin and \lib directories must remain intact. The base J9 executable and its shared objects must remain in the \bin directory.

A:
1. Install IBM's J9 JVM onto your Windows Mobile phone.
2. Download and run SerSart MTS
To install and run this demo MIDlet on the target file system:

1. In File Explorer, go to the \J9\MIDP20\bin folder and tap emulator to run this program.
The MIDlet List window is now displayed.
2. Tap the Install button.
3. Select the keyboard function and type the following in the URL text field: http://ts.sersart.mobi/ICTSTradingServer/app/midp/ICTSMIDPTradingSystem.jad
4. Tap the Ok button. The Progress dialog displays this message: Installing a Midlet from "http://ts.sersart.mobi/ICTSTradingServer/app/midp/ICTSMIDPTradingSystem.jad"
5. Tap the Yes button. Ignore the subsequent warning message and tap the Yes button. A Success message is now displayed.
6. Tap the Ok button. The MIDlet List window is displayed. To run the application, tap SerSart Mobile Trading System and tap the Launch button. An application appears.
