Most Asked Questions

Q: "How to configure Internet Access on BlackBerry, and also what's the difference between Direct TCP and Custom(Advanced) connections?"

A: During the initial program launch of SerSart MTS, all users will be prompted to select the correct type of device internet connection. Therefore we strongly suggest identifying the proper connection before the initial program launch.

There are two possible connections:
  • Connect Direct TCP
  • Custom/Advance Connection

Connect Direct TCP

Direct TCP stack is included with BlackBerry handhelds version 3.8 or higher and allows direct TCP connection to be launched directly from the BlackBerry handheld without using the Mobile Data Service

Your BlackBerry may be configured to utilize the direct TCP, in the following way:

  • On the BlackBerry device go to Options and access TCP or Tools screen.
  • In the TCP screen, enter the required information for your wireless carrier.
  • Save your new settings.

* APN; UserName for APN, Password for APN:

  • must be requested from your carrier provider or
  • according to your carrier provider, collected from the APN list provided via: APN List

** Note: you will be able to make direct TCP connections from your handheld only if your wireless carrier supports such connections and you may also need to upgrade your rate plan accordingly.

Custom / Advance Connection

In case your device is not supported by Direct TCP Connection, please generate all the necessary information in order to perform the Custom / Advance Connection.

To generate such information, follow the steps featured below:

  • On the BlackBerry device go to Options and access Service Book screen.
  • If there is an entry labeled WAP Transport highlight the entry, click the track wheel and select View.
  • * If there is no WAP Transport entry you will need to contact your mobile carrier in order to obtain your WAP settings.

  • Press the track wheel and select Show HRT; track wheel again and select View.
  • If your device uses GPRS, there should be a line beginning with "APN:".

The remaining text on that line is your GPRS APN that you will need to enter in Web Viewer.

  • Obtain your WAP gateway IP address and port from the "IP/Ports:" field.

The WAP gateway IP address is composed of everything before the first colon.

The WAP gateway port is the number following the first colon.

For Example if IP/Ports: 10.250.250.250:9201:8205 then:

WAP gateway IP address is 10.250.250.250
WAP gateway port is 9201
